KEEPING THE LIGHT ON

WORKSHOP / KEYNOTE

What inspires a child? How might that inspiration spell the difference between motivation and resignation? Between empathy and apathy? How may a child’s ideas, however far-reaching or unrealistic in the moment, be tools for self-preservation, proactively turning an “at-risk” young person into someone who can mine his internal resources and buoy himself in an uncertain world?

Modern brain science tells us that we are “soft-wired” to connect. When we manage our kids from the outside in, focusing exclusively on behavior, we can lose sight of the person. We miss a critical opportunity to build connectedness from the inside out, to harness a child’s vitality, and to create pathways for abiding relationships.

As the mother of two young boys, one “twice exceptional” gifted son with unique needs, I have witnessed firsthand over the past ten years the power of connection versus control, the value of engagement over management, and a child’s profound “need” for inspiration to thrive in the world.

Join me for a transformative, interactive workshop that blends science and story, anecdote and analysis, compelling video and powerful insights from cutting-edge thinkers, researchers, teachers and parents.
